What just happend?

Disable the reCAPTCHA plugin. It's a core feature in 1.6.5 and 1.6.6.

AdminCP > Template's > Your theme's templates > Member Templates > member_register > and find;

{$captcha}

and Change it into;

{$hiddencaptcha}
