None of the thumbnails will expand into the relevant attachments, and single attachments have been multiplied by the number of attempts to merge them.

The database was converted from XMB, to MyBB 1.4(?) and then to 1.6.5

If anyone can point me in the right direction, i would appreciate it.

Did you try using the Rebuild Attachment Thumbnails Tool in the ACP yet?

Yes, that's how I got so many duplicates. Every rebuild seems to generate more thumbnails (that don't open).

The merge system is known to be broken for attachments currently.
