Is internet becoming a really annoying place?

There's so much advertising, stupid scams, popups. I want to see a sports recap and most of the times, relevant information is clouded by fake stuff. Search for a program and everything you see is scamming sites offering downloads of all sorts, look for a health subject and there comes a tsunami of miraculous cures and discount pills, open a webmail account and soon your spambox will be full of it. I was browsing mybb community and there's this guy opening a thread about bike wheels? what the hell, man?

What's it all about? is this a profitable activity? how do these people earn money? I'm starting to think that the gigantic scam business is some sort of chinese governmental plan to flood the internet with rubbish and cause damage to the western cyberspace economy. Just a wild theory.

Thoughts?

• Spam happens everywhere; People who clean it up make tons of money (i.e. Google's search is/was much better, with less spam, than what we had pre-1999)
  
• Part of your list can be eliminated "with experience" (for example) I almost never see "way too many ads or any spam" related to programming and/or Linux, since certain sites (i.e. StackOverflow, ServerFault, etc) don't have spam or ads.
  
• ...so just choose those types of URL's from your search results.

Off topic: what was the point in even fining him CAD$1 billion? He would obviously never be able pay it....

On topic: money talks, and porn/drug sites pay a lot for ads. Just look at google Adsense. The turnover of that is astronomic. They are just the legitimate ads. How many time have you been browsing a seemingly normal site to be suddenly gazing at an ad about breast enlargement, local prostitutes or penis enlargement? And how about that ad about teeth whitening? I see it 3-4 times a week

Where does that money come from? I understand that you can win money by putting some banners advertising real products. But how spending a lifetime programming new ways of harassing millions of people with fake crap no one buys can be profitable?

I think you're using the wrong interwebs.

I don't experience these problems at all. I only visit and download from reputable sites.
