As the topic says, I'd like to ask if it's possible for a usergroup who can NOT see a forum, be able to download the attachments contained in threads in that forum (via direct linking).

Ofcourse, I've set 'Can download attachments' on the usergroup permissions for that forum but it seems it is getting ignored while the forum is not visible for them.

Using latest 1.6.7 on a Linux nginx server

Maybe a bug? Or am I forgetting something?

I have a similar issue where I found attachments are bound to the post they were uploaded to, making it not simple to use on other posts.
For example

[attachment=??]

only gets displayed for me on the post it was uploaded with....
So maybe this would require a plugin... not sure yet.. and what makes it difficult is all attachments other then SOME jpg and PNG get .attach extension and therefore don't work for with direct linking unless someone figures this out.. maybe some kind of javascript could properly rename the attachments and allow linking elsewhere on the forum.
