Since 2.0 is a long way out and 1.8 is now on the radar, can we get a 1.8 Suggestions forum?

I would think that still falls under 1.6 suggestions and feedback, since it's a minor update (relative to 2.0).

I'm pretty sure we had one for 1.6 when 1.4 was around. I see no harm in having one personally.

I could be lying (I'm known for this in the staff forums) but I think I read somewhere that we'd add the 1.8 suggestions forum when beta testing starts...

Surely the beta stage is too late to start adding features though? Once a product enters beta, there should just be bug fixes leading up to the final release in my eyes.

whats the point of suggestions after most coding has been done? some suggestions, especially from those of us more advanced plugin authors, could/would like some core enhancements that may have a larger downstream impact compared to suggestions like "make it like vB" or "add notifications"

As I said, I could well be wrong.

Also I don't think 1.8 is as "open" to suggestions as say 2.0. Adding significant changes would only mess things up more than necessary, creating a largely unpopular upgrade due to how many themes/plugins it could break.

Having a suggestions forum after a beta would hopefully just be ensuring the best possible user experience for already existing features. Call it polish.

The 1.6 suggestion forum would be used. We have been taking suggestions from there for 1.8, even if we've been secretive about it. If you have suggestions for 1.8, feel free to post them.

I don't think we'll be having a separate 1.8 suggestion forum. Currently the 1.6 suggestion forum is more of a 1.x suggestion forum. If you look back in the threads, there are some from 2004. I'm pretty sure we'll end up renaming the 1.6 suggestions forum to 1.8 suggestions when a stable is released.

A 1.8 beta forum will be created as soon as 1.8 beta is released, though.

Maybe a weird question, but wouldnt it be easier renaiming the 1.6 suggestion forum to 1.X suggestion forum? Might be a bit clearer then.

I added 1.8 to the suggestions and feedback forum title. We will probably open a dedicated 1.8 forum for bugs and suggestions once the beta is released.
