OK, I use Goodbye Spammer and Stop Forum Spam and it has helped incredibly. BUT... Low and Behold... I still got spammed today. The problem is I wouldn't have known about it if I hadn't gone to the board and seen it myself. My question is, how do I make the script email me everytime someone creates a new thread or reply?
I subscribe to each forum. go through and click "Subscribe to this forum" Just below the New Thread Button on each board you want to receive notification, that way you get an email for each new thread started. Make sure you have Receive Emails from Admins ticked in your CP options. I also have "Default Thread Subscription Mode: set to instant Email notification. That gives you an email for each new reply.
Thank You!
That's not a great idea at all. Use these,

^bots always fill in homepage link so this is a must.

Optional (because it's not straight forward) but such a help,

spamalyser is the bomb

also if your board is not insanely busy it's good to approve the first post of each user

Yes! First post approval will help you big time. It can also alert you to low-quality posts before you see 30 borderline-spammy posts scattered around your forum.
Thank you everyone for your replies and suggestions. I think I will go with Brad-T's idea of having to approve the first post of new posters... I'm pretty sure that will do the trick. THANK YOU!
