Since it doesn't seem like these improvements will be done in 1.8, I am looking for a plugin dev to work on this. Also, since I imagine any plugin dev willing to take on such a task will want some money for their time, I am looking for partners to fund the development of this plugin.
Also, I would like to release this to the community once it is completed.
Other ideas are welcome.

- Ability to select multiple files to upload at once
- Images upload without page refresh (AJAX)
- Drag to re-order attachments
- Image attachments should be lightboxed automatically
- Ability to add caption/description to image attachments to show in lightbox
