Using an ftp client (FlashFXP), upload the contents of the 'upload' directory to the directory in which you have a previous version of MyBB installed, with the exception of uploading of the following files:

this is whats written in the upgrade manual.
do I have to put the content in the root and does it delete the other maps after words.

You have to replace the old files with the new ones (except for inc/config.php and inc/settings.php).
