What is this template called? i've tried numerous times to change it.

You mean the black color? It's in global.css as .trow2

also that template would be the postbit and postbit_classic templates i believe.

if you are using firefox, you can check all the element by using inspect element by hit the shortcut key (Q) or right click - inspect element.
