I'm about to update to 1.6.8 and have read about Core Edits. What I want to know is, what constitutes a core edit? I have edited config.php - does this mean I need to make the edits again once I've upgraded? Is it a core edit?

Core edits are edits to the default MyBB files, so yes you will need to re-edit your core files if they are included in the updated version.

Upgrading won't affect ./inc/config.php you won't need to make the edits again.
