Go to ACP > Templates & Style > Templates > Add Template (for Templates) and ACP > Templates & Style > Themes > Add Theme (for Themes). Then you can edit to your heart's content.
If, however, you want to upload a theme that someone else has created, first unzip the file that you downloaded. Upload anything in a directory called "Images" to ./Images in cPanel or FTP. Then, go to your site and navigate to ACP > Templates & Style > Themes and choose "Import a Theme". Click "Choose a File" and find the XML file in the zipped file you unzipped earlier. Next, tick the box that says "Ignore Version Compatibility" and click Import Theme.
Once done, you simply need to set it as your main theme, do this by clicking on the green arrow next to the theme name. You're done!
Hope this helped.
