How can this be replicated on MyBB?
Basically listing the forums recent threads and comments in sidebar like this:

I believe the above image is a vBulletin forum.

Yaldaram's plugin there doesn't look that good.. but you can use similar code and style it to your liking.
There's some free ones via google search.
