Is it okay to use inline styling for default plugin templates or is there a better way?

At the mo I create a template named PLUGIN_style with an inline <style> element that styles all of my elements.

This is necessary because I have special elements like a CSS dropdown menu and other things that require special styling.
Its ok but better to add in global.css

That's what I would usually do, but I have no experience with modifying theme CSS files. Can you point me in the direction of a tut or a quick tut yourself?
