I downloaded the sql of my forum as back up because I'm gonna move to another host. here's what i did - install a new fresh mybb forum and upload mysql from the old host. is this appropriate?

It turned out the plugins installed are functioning crazy.
the welcome guest plugin displays two messages

"welcome to my forum"
"welcome to my forum"

could there be any reason why this happened?
has anyone fixed this issue before?

You've to edit your theme's header template and remove one set of variable of that plugin.

You exported theme first from old hosting or not?

I haven't thought of those variables inserted there. Thanks for the replies.

An easier way would have been to just downloaded the MyBB you had running (all files), and the SQL database, then imported it all into the new host and changed the config.php file for the new information and you wouldn't have this issue at all.
