Simply what is $templatelist used for? Is it to store the templates used in the php file on the database?

It is suppose to be a comma separated list of templates that are going to e used in that file/page.

MyBB caches templates based of it. Otherwise it will need to query the db for each template being used.

Remove the list on the index.php of your forum and see what happens (index.php?debug=1)..
