This is all I could find about 2.0 from 2009. One paragraph. It's definitely not an announcement. 2.0 was always something to look up to. At that point we thought it would be a good idea to inform the community that we were thinking about it. To this day we are still in planning stages. It takes a lot of work to rewrite MyBB, and we're all unpaid volunteers.
Developing the Future was the first major announcement about MyBB 2.0, in June 2011. In actual fact, plans for 2.0 have been discussed well before 2009, even before 2008. Against these discussions, what you've heard about the next generation of MyBB can't even be classed as the tip of the iceberg; but likewise we haven't fully decided anything more which is why we don't discuss it publicly.

2.0 is, for us, creating an entirely new piece of forum software that follows the principles of MyBB. It might be easy for you to tell us to make it but it is quite the opposite. We need plans, the right team and the right tools before we even finalise plans for it - and we're nowhere near that point at the moment.

Anyway, I couldn't really care much for discussing 2.0 or your thoughts on our development cycle (to be blunt). We have a great product in MyBB 1.8 and we're fully focused on that.

Exactly this. Even it would take a while or couple of months for you to think to upgrade to 1.8x even it consists some small to major changes, so 2.0 is way far away.

2.0 is going to be a complete rewrite with a framework as base while ensuring that already 1.x running boards can also upgrade to it.

It takes a heavy lot of time, and you should respect with what information you have now, in the hand. Meanwhile they're doing their best by updating about 1.8.
Guys, Please try to keep the upgrading system automatic like Joomla 2.5 so that we (poorly technical) people can also keep pace with you. Thanks for all of your efforts.

1. Upload files
2. goto install directory and click upgrade.

Is it really that hard to upload the files? IMO that requires no technical skill whatsoever.
Hi,

Your MyBB 2.0 suggestion has unfortunately been rejected. Your suggestion does not fit with the direction that MyBB is heading in as a project at this time.
