able to reduce the amount of installed plugin is not bad idea I guess.
not to mention having the question of whether in fact the plugin you use is safe or not.
So easy to add though as default imho. Just do it already.
I agree that it should be default, too. But I also wouldn't delay 1.8 over it.

this should be core but it isn't worth delaying 1.8 over it seeing as there is a plugin, having said that it isn't that difficult to implement into your own forum without a plugin.
I dont see how this cant be added for 1.8. Its not exactly going to take long to implement it. Its only a simple contact form and a few settings, its not exactly rocket science.
