One more questions that's bugging me:
Is it ok to have all the folders lying in the public_html? It's got admin etc just lying there? I've deleted the install directory and deleted the lock file.
Yes, that is correct. As long as the installer is either locked with the lock file or the 'install' directory is deleted, it is completely secure.
