I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 on a VPS. Test mail script was able to use PHP to send me a message.
Can't send mass mail or verification mail
Error is:

The mail server does not understand the MAIL FROM command. Reason: 550 5.7.0 Sender address does not belong to logged in user {mp-us001}

MyBB 1.6.6
You should really upgrade to 1.6.8 first due to several security fixes.
I would imagine this is an issue with the server mail configuration though. Looks like the server doesn't like setting 'from' addresses and only wants to send email from its own user.
Just did some more research and found http://community.mybb.com/thread-38084-p...#pid307314

Quote:So this is a security setting on the hosts end to prevent spam. Not a MyBB bug.
So looks like you should goto your host about this one Smile
It's a selfmanaged VPS from AllGamer. I know it's not a MyBB bug, it's a security setting I need to change, being a VPS- I have complete control over this. I had to install: PHP, Apache2, MySQL & sendmail; I am the root user with SSH access.

I have no idea which setting I need to change though, II temporaryly set the forunm to use gmail SMTP...
Going to move this to web development and administration then as its not really a MyBB only issue Toungue
Why not just install a mail server, add a Linux user, then do it that way? Or if you're worried about RAM, check out Google Apps. Use your domain for email, use the gmail UI, and Google's servers.
