Is it just me or did someone go on a 1-starring spree around here? I just noticed that many threads have 1 star ratings. As in almost all of them on at least the first page of the forums.
What is this rating relevancy you're trying to appeal to ?
I don't particularly care about ratings, it's just something I noticed. And someone who would take the time to rate all of those threads 1 star for whatever pointless reason is probably someone that the staff might want to keep an eye on to make sure they don't "step up their game" so to speak.
Even I noticed, but since the support team don't go by the ratings, I don't think it would be a problem for anyone.
I never noticed this, but I think that ratings should be disabled, myself...

Agreed.
Well the only way we can find out who is doing it is by looking at the database which I imagine none of us can really be bothered to do Toungue

I am for disabling it personally though as it doesn't particularly serve a purpose other than displaying the feature in MyBB itself. Plus I never pay attention to them (other than when I rate some of my own threads 5-star ^_^).

As Chris is the only one with database access I think it's more of the case of availability and priority than who can be bothered. Smile

Aww I liked rating my own threads Sad
What is the "official" use for ratings on this forum in specific. I mean at most places it doesnt really serve any purpose.
  • MyBB 1.6 General Support = not useful (shouldnt be with support threads)
  • MyBB 1.6/1.8 Suggestions and Feedback = could be useful but like shown in this thread its simply heavily abused.
  • Security Management and Support = not useful (shouldnt be with support threads)
  • MyBB Merge Support = not useful (shouldnt be with support threads)
  • MyBB 2.0 Suggestions and Feedback = could be useful but like shown in this thread its simply heavily abused.
    etc.

List is way to long, but generally to me threads asking support or feedback should not be rated. Like the whole plugin/theme development sections.

The only place i could see it being useful is the things to showcase something. But then still.. its getting abused by people rating everything with one star etc.

While a thank you system would be better. I think the general idea that any community would be able to handle a system where you can show something isnt great through the means of a rating system generally will never work.

Well i know one site that has a system that does work.. but that one is the most strictly moderated rating system i have ever seen. You would even get a mail if you were not rating things properly.

So letting users give negative feedback through the means of a 1-2 star stuff, in my opinion especially on a forum that is there for support is kinda useless. And serves no real purpose, maybe somebody has a use i would love to know it though Toungue
