Full Version: Cannot Get SMTP Email To Work

My host is assuring me that they have SMTP service turned on.

I setup Mail Settings under Configuration as follows:

- I select SMTP mail from the dropdown.

- Under SMTP Hostname is enter mail.bigsoapbox.com, which is what my host told me to use for SMTP.

- I use port 426, which is what my host told me to use for SMTP.

- For SMTP username I use the username for my hosting account.

- For SMTP password I use the password for my hosting account.

- SMTP Encryption Mode is set to SSL Encryption.

- Mailing Log is set to Log Everythnig.

When I try to use the Resend Activation Code function from the forum to go to an email address I used to sign up a test account, it comes back saying "Activation email has been resent." but I don't get the email.

Under System Mail Log I get the following error message:

Unable to connect to the mail server with the given details.<br /><br />10060: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.

Can anyone please tell me what that message means? This very same thing happened with my old host as well. I have NEVER been able to get the SMTP mail to work.

I've read the documentation and I believe I have everything setup properly.

Please help.

Thanks
Two tips:

1) Maybe try to log into your provided email to see if it works.
2) Try to wait a little after changing settings and only then test them.
Thanks, loveley, but the email account works.
