I imported XML from my 1.1.8 themes on a fresh 1.2 install, and with the right image directories uploaded, it works completely fine... I thought old ones didn't work?

Some templates will be broken due to variable name changes and structural changes.

Your theme should import fine and will be missing a few things (and some settings will be wrong because of changes) however you can easily go to the themes editor and update the theme to fix that.
