What's the point of reading only the last post without a context?
I'm sorry but the suggestion is absolutely against the point of "last post column". Last post column is built for last post. However we may suggest to add an image or something before the Last post subject something for viewing "Last few unread posts".
It's rather easy; just change it to /thread-123-newpost.html and it should figure out which is the last post to have been read and send the user there.

Someone was having an issue with "Go to first unread post", and there are some MyBB forums with it (MyBB Hacks for example, check "Pages: 1 2 3 4 ... last "), however I can not find here anything related to it whether it's plugins, old functions, etc.
