How can this be?
I even have Guests (renamed Visitor) as a banned group...
I still get dialy spammers using all kinds of user chosen handles and spamming.
What could I be doing wrong?
You need to put a question and answer plugin on.

That may be a bug, but I don't think you can actually ban guests.

Or are you talking about the hellban plugin.
No to clarify I have registered member posting only, yet gusts are able still post. I have even made the group "guest" banned, yet spam bots still can post...
How did you even allow guests to post in the first place ?
URL? Are you sure your permissions are configured correctly? If you post a new thread on the Private Inquiries forum with a MyBB administrator account username/password, a staff member could take a look for you.

Did you check the forum wide permissions setting for guests?
Follow this and see what you is set up in your forum:
ACP> USER and GROUPS > FORUM and POSTS >
uncheck the following:
Can post new threads?
Can post replies to threads?
Can rate threads
Go to bottom of page and click SAVE USER GROUP.
This is forum wide permission setting for guests you are working on.
I have all three of those unchecked and spammers are still able to post. I don't know how. I also checked forum permissions and guests DO NOT have post privilege.
I am having same problem as the OP.
