9/10 send perfectly but for 1 in every 10 it doesnt work properly. For that reason to not have to deal with it (since i couldnt find a cause) im using a form which only awaiting activation users can use. Sends a PM to me, an then with the plugin for activating users from the modcp its a "decent solution".

Though this would only work if it hardly ever happens :/
OK so its not just me. I'm not sure if i want to do the PM solution though.

When you have an email account, go to Go to ACP>Configuration>Mail>and fill out the details for SMTP. The problem you are getting may be because you don't have Postfix or any other mail server installed. If you want to send mails via PHP, I'll suggest looking into setting up a mail server on your server.

After all that I deleted sendmail using PHP from my server, installed postfix using SMTP, set mail to SMTP, and still didn't get any mail. So i changed it all back to PHP.
that is what sendmail is. A mail server for Debian repos. The server sends mail via other methods, but not through mybb.
I am seeing:

'PHP could not send the mail'

Unless you changed the mail address afterwards its giving errors.

Thats because I am currenlty in the process of installing and configuring SMTP, so sendmail no longer exists on my server, so i am sure that link would show that now.

before i configured SMTP, I got PHP sent the mail
I have the same error but no error message has been prompted
I still after a couple months of tinkering around, have not gotten the email to work. I latest tried SMTP using Gmail as apparently the "easy way out" but even after making a new Gmail account specifically for registration, added and changed the settings for SMTP to gmail's info, I still recieve no email from my forums.

I guess at this point it is so frustrating, especially since so many others have the same problem.

Earlier I tried modifying sendmail in my apache to use my own server, but I get the idea from other people that say that is a pain in itself.

Oh well i guess i will result to Admin activation as my forums are not like high traffic anyways.

EDIT: i actually just check th e mail logs in which it displays all the times i attmepted to get an email for activation this time via SMTP,

ERROR:
The mail server is not ready, it did not respond with a 220 status message.

What does this mean?

EDIT2:
However the From: email address is not correct it is the default server email address of my server instead of the gmail. I am assuming the problem is it is somewhat working, just it needs to attempt to send "from" the gmail and not the server email. I thought the SMTP settings would have acknowleged this though?
