Ok I"ve followed the directions on this good tut btw.. However i made my own icon for the blog but, I got a search icon instead. How can i remove that and replace it with my new icon I made? Here is a link http://prntscr.com/dvtc84

How can I display new toplinks only in homepage

Not possible since the file is being used on all pages.

same issue, why search icon 

Because the tutorial is old and now toplinks use styles with a default background (sprites.png) and a position for each link. If position is not set, you see the search icon (position 0).
So you need to create your own #forumMenu ul.top_links a.yourEntry class
