Hi Again everyone. So everything is working really well apart from the final setup step for me...
When each user registers they sit in the Users & Groups under Awaiting Activation. The problem is that I didn't get an email saying that someone had tried to register. Is there a plugin that will send an email to me when anyone tries to register so I can activate them individually?

Yes I found that one before but wasn't sure how they are installed etc as they don't give much information on how to do all that...

1. download that mod
2. Upload the email_admin_new_member.php file to your inc/plugins folder
3. Admin CP >> Plugins >> Click Activate next to Email Admin about new members
4. Admin CP >> Configuration >> Email about new members >> Plugin Active to yes, Email: enter admin email, enter a subject and message
Well that plugin sux lime. you do exactly what it says and it totally screws up your forum...
To install the plugin do the following steps:
1. unpack the *.zip archive
2. copy the files and folders of the folder source/ to the ROOT of your MyBB
3. go to the ACP and activate the plugin
4. set the correct settings. You find them at the acp at
Configuration -> Settings -> "Email about new members"
Well that worked for the first one but this one totally screwed everything up...Fantastic Plugin

Man so frustrating when people make plugins full of crap...
I am a Wordpress Developer and have some issues with those plugin developers as well. I know I should have backed up and I thought it a bit weird to install those files into the root directory but it's on the MyBB site...

copy the plugin file only to root/inc/plugins folder and not to the root folder
and that plugin has only one file (email_admin_new_member.php) which needs to be uploaded. forget the other files

I installed this plugin and it seems to work great, now that I completed your step 4. How was I supposed to know that the "Email about new members" screen needed to be filled in? Is there something in the plugin that told me that I missed? I'd like to know so my future plugin installs go smoother.
