Hello,

Starting to get spam on my forum and would like to understand the banning ability more.  How does it work?  Does it ban that username or also the subscribed IP address and email address to prevent re-registration?  As such, is it better to ban than delete a bad user to prevent the ability to re-register?

It all depends on how you ban, if you ban by username, as shown in [wiki]Admin_CP_Users#Banning[/wiki], person with that username will not be able to use that account. However, if you IP ban, as shown in [wiki]Admin_CP_Board_Settings#Banning_Options[/wiki], the person will not be able to access your site using that same IP.

In most cases, I don't reccommend that you delete the account because then you loose all of your infomation about the user. I'd say, ban the account and possibly ban the IP of the offender.
