In the Documentation, it states:

6. After the installation has completed, please delete the 'install' directory from server.
Note: for extra security you can CHMOD config.php back to 755, but make sure you leave settings.php writable.

Shouldn't that actually be 644?

It depends on the server configuration. But I think it should be 644, too.
