Does anyone know of a plugin to split your main forums into 2 collums?

I know VB does it (EG: http://facepunch.com/)

But not sure about MyBB.

Have you searched the mod site?

The dual column effect can be achieved using css and html. Looking at that facepunch site it seems they have used a float to get the categories in columns side by side.

maybe u can teach how to used that css

It is the same trick used for putting the subforums in columns - check out the tutorials section.
