I followed all of the documentation on this site, I followed instruction found on other forums.

Nothing works.

I either get a "No theme file found"

or if I upload beforehand "No file uploaded" and then nothing.

Upload all the theme files to your forum.
Go to your Admin Control Panel -> Templates & Style -> Import a Theme
You should find a .xml file in the themes files. Select that file in "Import from"
Check "Ignore Version Compatibility"
Just if this doesn't work, what theme are you trying to install? A link would be helpful

Take screenshots of every step of your process and we can tell you where it's going wrong.
