I just upgraded to 1.6.9 a few hours ago, and it ended up screwing me over. My host suspended my account temporarily, because it was "using too many resources". I'm using a VERY reputable host.
Their explanation was that my forum was creating a new page with every refresh. How is this possible? I have 12 users on my forum, and literally, 4 threads. No, I do not have a shoutbox.
Could you please include your forum url even if its suspended.
It may be a plugin that went wrong during the upgrade process and is running a lot of queries and using too many resources?
I upgraded about 6 hours ago, and all went fine.

I followed all the instructions carefully for upgrading.
ftp side do you see what they're talking about? That's insane for a new page every refresh..
Definitely could be a plugin incompatibility issue, do you use any bot plugins?
No bot plugins at all.

That's it.
I upgraded my board to 1.6.9 without making database backup, templates backup and disabling plugins. And it was a success on my end. Lets see if any support team can help you. Your site is functioning well.
Ah, so its finally back up. My host said the two processes excessively using were forumdisplay.php and the searching function. Can't remember the name. Could this possibly have been caused by an attack on my website?
Possibly; no changes were made to those areas in 1.6.9.
I love it when supposedly reputable hosts aren't more specific in their explanations.
E.g. your question "was it an attack", WE don't know, you have tell us! Webservers usually have an access.log file which records such things quite verbosely.
