Scratch that - its for 1.0 and so probably is totally incompatible by now!

That's probably because the plugin is for MyBB 1.0 (as mentioned) and so was very unlikely to work (I don't know how much has changed but probably almost everything).

Provided your forum still functions, you will be fine deleting the plugin. You could post a request over at: http://community.mybb.com/forum-65.html for someone to convert that plugin or make a new one from scratch - its probably relatively simple to grab the permissions from the database.
