is there a mod or option which allows you to register to threads and then it emails you on new posts.

similar to vbulletin setup where if you create a topic it emails you the information of new posts.

but is there anyway to have people auto subscribe by default whenever they post in a forum?

UCP -> Your Profile -> Edit Options

Find 'Automatically subscribe to threads you post in.' and check the box. By doing this, each thread you reply to, you will be automatically subscribed to that thread.
