It looks like an issue with PHP itself. You might want to check bugs.php.net for any reports about this, or contact your host and maybe they can move you to a server with PHP 5.3 installed.

Alternatively you could comment out that line but that you'd lose the highlighting functionality (e.g. http://community.mybb.com/thread-131879....ight=1.6.9 )

In the short term I have commented the line out until I get a response from my host regarding the PHP version.
