I'm sorry if this has been answered before. In my searching for an answer to this I have found some scripts such as "Automatic Subscriptions" mod and some other things but none that actually send you an email notification when someone hits the reply button to one of your posts on a thread.

I am really struggling to find a solution to this so any help would be greatly appreciated.

UserCP > Edit Options > Default Subscription Mode > Instant Email Notification.

Does it take a while to take effect after you did it? I did that and then someone replied to a post of mind and it didn't email me Undecided

check your junk/spam folder, or if you run the server, check it's spam logs
