Should I use a SEO plugin like Google SEO on my forum? I have it installed, but do these SEO plugins really help you get onto google? I have heard the can hinder you. What is your opinion?
Yeah, it's a good plugin. No idea how it can "hinder you"...
All you need to do to get your forum in Google is submit it to Google Webmaster Tools. Google SEO is a well built plugin to help with certain aspects of SEO and provides useful functions which Google actively suggests you use. It's not necessary, but your forum can live without rewritten URLs and such.

On my big board I use most all of its features, on my other board, I use parts of it, like the sitemap, 404 error pages and meta edits.
Yeah all I use is Meta and Sitemap, it's a handy little plugin though, it makes things easier.
