Hello,

I'm receiving spam and it's new to my 2 years old forum.
I'm receiving spam on 1 section only.
I already have activated stopforumspam plugin (since first forum installation) and i have recaptcha enabled.
Are there other solutions to stop this idiots?
I can moderate first post only but how? Promotion settings are complex.
Not disrespecting other plugins, but I highly recommend Spamalyzer.
Install and fine tune the setting. It makes life way easier.
promotion settings are not complex.

first create a new group that has the same permissions and settings as registered group. change the old registered group name to "probation" or something you understand it to be. then enable post moderation for the "probation" group.

in group promotions, create a new post based promotion and set the number of posts to whatever number you want. i would also suggest a one day requirement (so then select both post count and time registered).

then select "probation" group as original group, then select "registered" as the new group (remember registered is the new group that does not have post moderation enabled)

select primary usergroup as the change type, then enable the promotion and logging and save.

then go back to task manager and make sure thep romption system is enabled
Are they commercial spammers? Spamming links to other products & sites.

If so, use this plugin:
http://mods.mybb.com/view/limiturlposting

It's very effective, it'll block users from posting links until they reach whatever post limit that you've chosen to set it at.

Yes they are commercial spammers and this plugin that i tried seems really unuseful because it only blocks link that starts with http, and normal link like example.com or www.example.com are NOT blocked. Unuseful.
Thank you anyway.
Have you tried this plugin? It won't do much good against human spammers, but for bots it does. Smile
I have recaptcha on registration, bots will pass recaptcha too? If yes it's new to me!

reCAPTCHA isn't much more secure than any other captcha. Some bots, such as XRumer, are capable of correctly answering reCAPTCHA codes.

From the XRumer developer:

Quote:The most important innovations in XRumer 7.5.28 Elite is possibility of registering and posting on most popular new engines (like: XenForo etc.), and the ability to pass over a dozen new types of protections, same as ReCaptcha (you can learn more about ReCaptcha here: google.com/recaptcha/learnmore ).

It is useful when it comes to stopping spam bots. Less effective on human spammers. But, removing the http:// still helps as it renders all their links unclickable.
