My old phpbb2 board has the collation of tables as : latin1_swedish_ci.
The posts and forum contain many special characters (icelandic) á, í, ú, í, æ, þ, ö.

I've tried many different merge methods but the outcome is always either garbled text - wrong encoding conversion or errors stating duplicate user names, when there are none.

So before I spend more days trying to figure this out, can anyone point me in the right direction - what should I choose in the dropdown and should I have Convert to utf turned on or off?

Anyone know what to choose in the dropdown because there is no latin1 there.

Couldn't you convert the tables to UTF8 in phpBB or phpMyAdmin, then import as UTF8 with the Merge System?

Finally converted to phpbb3 and then the merge worked - everything is now utf-8 and all characters appear as they should
