Full Version: Site shows up without www prefix in Google

Hi all,

Firstly, my newly launched website/myBB forum does not yet show up in Google if I use key words to search. I understand this, as the site was only launched a day ago - once high quality content is built up and Google's crawlers have a chance to index my site properly I'll be hoping for more success in this respect. I have of course enabled the Google SEO plugin.

However, if I type the whole website URL in the Google search, my newly launched domain comes up as the first result as expected (its fairly unique!).

The problem is, is that the site address appears without the www. prefix! I'm not sure why this is happening, as both www.mydomain.com and mydomain.com versions were submitted to Google via their Webmaster Tools.

I also noticed something else quite peculiar, quite possibly related:

If I log in to www.mydomain.com and then visit mydomain.com then it doesn't think I'm logged in (yet if I return to www.mydomain.com I appear still logged in), almost as if the browser is seeing them as different sites. Can this be?

Any help appreciated!
You have to redirect one to the other. You can set which version to show in Google Webmaster Tools.
Thanks for the reply Nathan.

Firstly
, do you have specific steps around the redirection please?

As for setting which version to show, I think I found it via: Configuration --> Settings --> Preferred domain
