Is there a plugin to act as a tagging system?
For example I write
Hey although I am not @username I have confirmed that yes this bug was fixed.
It would link to them in the post and send them an alert telling them they were tagged.

This would require I had both plugins installed?
In order for the alert to work, you would need both.
Also, don't forget:

If MyAlerts is not installed at the time of this plugin's installation no settings will be created in the MyAlerts group and that code will not be processed in mention_alerts.php
If MyAlerts is removed after this plugin installs its MyAlerts setting, the plugin will remain working with no changes and without leaving any trash behind. MyAlerts will remove the mention setting and alterations in its installation process.
So basically install MyAlerts first, then install MentionMe.

Hmm, I'm looking for an all in one plugin to be honest, I don't really want to install MyAlerts but I appreciate your help.
No problem, I'll keep my eye out for an all in one package. But if you do decide to use the other two, make sure you install MyAlerts first, and then install MentionMe for it to work properly.
I've been working on a little plugin recently, updating the Mention plugin to send a PM. It's only available in English ATM (hardcoded strings), but I can add language support if you need it.
I've tested it a bit, and it works as expected.

Yes, you simply use @markwesley or @"Chris Boulton" and it will link to them and PM them. It formats their name as well - such as @
Chris Boulton.
