I know how to do it, but the problem is is that I am worried it will totally wipe my site. I am on the previous version of MyBB but the newest one is in Softacalous or however you spell it. (derp).

I have been worried for over a week about it, but I was wondering if it truly does wipe a site? I would just quite like it to update on it's own and not effect the site or any of it's areas?

If you upgrade following this guide and ensure you take backups of your site, it won't wipe your site.

It wouldn't be much of a upgrade if it wiped your data, would it?

There's no harm, but you can run a back up of your database if you're really that concerned.
