You used to be able to increase the width of the editor by increasing the number of columns in the template, but that no longer works.

What's the new way to specify the width of the new editor that was introduced in 1.6.9? The current default width is way too small for my site.

I use css. Try setting div.messageEditor and textarea width in your global.css.
