I had a user who no longer wanted to be a moderator; he was a moderator of two forum sections on the site.

I changed his account from a moderator to just a normal user, yet he still appeared on the 'Forum Team' page with the other moderators, he was displaying as a normal user. Also, he still showed up as the moderator for the two sections at the top of the two forums ('Moderated By:...')

I found that when i removed him from moderating the two sections (under forum settings in the ACP), it removed him from the Forum Team Page and from the top of the two forums.

Unsure if this should be what happens, surely changing someone's usergroup as a moderator should remove them from moderating forum sections?

A user can still moderate a forum while being a regular user. It's intentional.

Not as far as I'm aware. Users don't have to be part of the actual moderator group to be able to moderate sections if they're specifically assigned to them.
