Full Version: 600+ Drupal Commerce Modules! Is that good or bad?

Drupal uses way too many SQL queries and also tends to be a waste of time (for some people), but the number of modules available is stunning.

Having over 600 modules for the Commerce Module is amazing, but who has time to test and evaluate even 30 or 40 of them?

Quote:These projects are floating around in the Drupal-verse and provide, connect to, or enhance the features of Drupal Commerce. Unfortunately, a simple list of these contributions was incredibly hard to find in one place. But thankfully, scraperwiki has provided an excellent way to bring it all to you in one searchable table.

ps "Ubercart (not Drupal Commerce Module) is the most popular Drupal E-Commerce platform."
^^^
...so do they have 800 or 900 additional modules?
To my understanding ubercart is/was replaced by Drupal Commerce with Drupal 7 and are basically the same thing.

I would say it's. Drupal's power comes from it's flexibility.

Yes, must be good for something, since so many people use it.

It's been over a year since I looked at Drupal, and you are correct Alex, that Drupal Commerce is the new "leader".

Drupal Commerce was written from scratch, designed from the ground up by people who learned from the flaws of Ubercart, with years of ecommerce experience under their belt. It uses the new APIs of Drupal 7, which results in a significantly greater compatibility with contrib modules. This in turn results less custom code required for a new site, both theme and modules. ~source

FYI:
ubercart
http://www.ubercart.org

Drupal eCommerce (started in 2004)
http://drupal.org/project/ecommerce

Drupal Commerce (started in 2009)
http://drupal.org/project/commerce

Ha Blush
The old choice used to be between ubercart and eCommerce.
I started this thread thinking that Drupal Commerce was the same older 'e'Commerce cart.

There are some good things about D7, but...
If only the Drupal core could shave "~100 queries" off of every page load, especially for authenticated users.*
*D7 does have more MySQL caching in the core.
