and about 500 members not showing in total members

Re-upload all MyBB files, the go to ACP>Tools & Maintenance>Recount & Rebuild.

Someone possibly edited all the files or maybe your site got hacked and someone messed around with your site files.

That shows that those files were edited from the default.

You probably used the changed files package for 1.6.9 and due to some foobar that reports 1.6.8 files as changed.

I'm seeing the same thing and it's got me a bit worried so I hope you are correct. Is there any way to verify what the cause is or a date when the files were changed?
