I tried to change the character coding from UTF-8 to iso-8859-1, but when I do, random characters appear on top of my forum above the header:

Nevermind, I replaced the old language file from my previous version of myBB with the new one and it fixed everything.
I would suggest downloading the latest MyBB 1.2.x package and just uploading and overwriting your language packs to the new updated ones, or if you use an international language (meaning other than english), find the version of your language for MyBB 1.2, im sure they have it, whichever language you're using.

So I assume you have the newest language file now and all the problems are resolved?
