Yup, by doing it the way I suggested you can "simulate" the banned group

you can try this work around.....
Step 1: Create a new user group say newban and copy permissions from Banned group (i mean this is a banned group is ticked)
Step 2: Edit this group and give permissions to Can view board? and Can view threads?
Step 3: Now ban the user you want and go to his profile in Admin CP
Stpe 4: His primary user group will be banned and make his Additional User Groups as newban (group we created)
Step 5: Disable permissions to view and post on all forums for this new group.
Step 6: Goto the forum you want the banned user to view and pot threads and enable the foll. permissions
Can view forum?
Can view threads within forum?
Can only view own threads?
Can post threads?

That works, now changing the permissions so they only can see the ban appeal forum. Thank you!
