I'd advise you go with a paid host as free hosting is often awful and will only make your experience with the software worse. You do need a webhost nonetheless to use MyBB.

Well "this" site uses more than just MyBB. there's a Content management system in use (CMS) in order to manage all the other elements of the site such as mods and news posts etc.
Really the easiest way to get your own website going is with a paid host that offers 1 click installs of various softwares such as Wordpress (a blog / CMS software). Some of these hosts also offer 1 click installs of MyBB (a forum software) which would make life a lot easier for you if you've never uploaded via ftp or shell before. In any case... getting a quality paid webhost is the best way to go.
