Looking to start web design, going to start out by creating a simple theme in photoshop which ill then attempt to code so i learn the basics. Hopefully that's the right way to go about it? Is Photoshop a good program to use or is there something else?

What dimensions would you use to make a mybb theme in PS. It's mainly the width i need help with, currently im using 960px.

Any help would be appreciated.

Most of the designers use Photoshop for mockup. But you can use any advanced image editor you have grip in (like, I use Corel ).

Dimension is really not a matter if you can show what you need completely in mockup as you are going to code it and you have to take care about dimensions then only. I've seen standard designers mocking up their design with mostly 1600px width though.
